The Relevant Skilled Employment Assessment (RSEA) is an optional assessment service provided by Engineers Australia for applicants who wish to claim skilled employment points for Australian skilled migration visas (such as Subclass 189, 190, and 491).
1. RSEA Assessment Fees (2026–2027)
- Standalone RSEA Fee: A$485.00 (excl. GST) / A$533.50 (incl. GST)
- Combined CDR + RSEA Fee: A$1,375.00 (excl. GST) / A$1,512.50 (incl. GST)
For full fee schedules across all pathways, see our Engineers Australia Skill Assessment Fees Guide.
2. Key Document Requirements for RSEA
To successfully claim points for overseas or Australian work experience, Engineers Australia requires verifiable third-party documentation for every period of employment declared. Primary and secondary evidence includes:
- Official Employer Reference Letter: Issued on official company letterhead, signed by an authorized manager or HR representative. The letter must state your exact position title, start and end dates, hours worked per week (minimum 20 hours/week required for skilled points), monthly/annual salary, and a detailed breakdown of core duties performed.
- Government Tax Documentation: Official income tax statements, tax return acknowledgments, PAYG payment summaries, or Form 16 certificates reflecting your reported income.
- Social Security / Retirement Savings: Official provident fund (PF), superannuation, or social security contribution records for the employment duration.
- Financial & Salary Verification: Bank account statements covering the employment period showing regular salary deposits matching your payslips and employment contract.
3. Why Certain Employment Periods Get Excluded
Engineers Australia applies strict criteria when assessing whether work experience qualifies as “skilled engineering employment.” Common reasons for exclusion include:
- Pre-Qualification Experience: Work experience gained prior to completing your bachelor’s degree or recognized engineering qualification is generally excluded from skilled points.
- Discrepancy in ANZSCO Duties: If the tasks described in your employer reference letter resemble technician or draftsperson responsibilities rather than professional engineering duties specified by your nominated ANZSCO code.
- Insufficient Secondary Evidence: Submitting only an employer reference letter without supporting tax records, bank statements, or official pay slips.
- Part-Time Work Under 20 Hours/Week: Employment undertaken for fewer than 20 hours per week is deemed insufficient under Migration Regulations.
