Difference between Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Do you know there is a significant difference between Electrical and Electronic Engineering? I have been very careful to note that electrical engineering and electronics engineering are often confused. Evidently, electrical engineers are concerned mostly with the large-scale production as well as distribution, generation, and transmission of electricity, while electronics engineers focus mainly on microelectronics.

What is the main difference between Electrical and Electronic Engineering?

Although these two words may seem very common, if we think about engineering, there are many differences between these electrical and electronics. Both need electricity to operate the devices/equipment.

Definition of electrical engineering:

Electrical engineering mainly discusses electricity supply and various types of electrical protection devices. Also different types of control systems like a relay, transformer, CT, PT etc. are involved in an electrical engineering subject.

Definition of electronic engineering:

Talking about electronics, we first need to know about the detailed function of electronics devices and how they are worked, and what type of devices they are. Semiconductor devices are the most common devices, which are considered electronic devices.

Formula Of Power In Electricity

The formula tells us that the voltage is proportional to the energy that passes through a wire. In other words, it shows how much energy a wire can carry without burning out…..

Difference between electrical and electronic engineering:

The following are the main difference between electrical and electronic engineering.

Electrical Engineering:

There is no doubt that most electrical engineering tasks are mainly performed within the power sector, for example, in the production, transmission, and distribution of power. This is because electrical engineering deals in the theory and practice of power generation, transmission, and distribution. Besides, various types of electrical system protection devices, electrical system voltage, and current measurement, as well as motor, generator, and relay control systems are some of the most critical tasks that the electrical engineering section needs to accomplish.

This discipline also handles the most two types of current and voltage, such as DC and AC. Most of the electrical devices are operated in AC voltages. AC voltage is usually higher than the DC voltage. Different countries of the world use AC voltage at different levels. For example, the United States of America (USA) mostly uses 120 volts AC voltage. On the other hand, most countries in Asia use 230 volts to operate their general equipment. Electricity can be divided into two types, such as single-phase and three-phase. However, single-phase and three-phase electricity are used for AC voltage. DC voltage, on the other hand, is used as a single phase.

Another important thing is that electrical devices are one kind of passive instrument. Passive devices do not require any additional power to operate them, such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, cables, and so on. Also noteworthy is that they cannot be used as amplifiers, and their output is never higher than the input. The transformer is completely different equipment, which can be used to increase or decrease the current or voltage level.

Electronics Engineering:

Difference between electrical and electronic engineering

Semiconductor devices are generally regarded as electronic devices such as transistors, diodes, BJT, IC, and so on. In most cases, they need PCB drawing to make them connected to each other. The design of PCB is another vital responsibility of the electronic section.

Most of the electronics devices are used DC voltage/DC current with a single phase. Also, they need a small level of voltage to operate them. The most important feature of electronic devices that they can make a decision based on the programming code. The IC is one of the intelligence devices which can perform a task logically.

Another important thing that electronic devices are passive devices which means these devices require external power to operate them. As an example, ICs, SCR, Transistor, BJT, etc. are necessary external power; otherwise, they will not function accurately.

These are the main difference between electrical and electronic engineering.
